Craig Colquhoun aka 'The Glass Wizard'

The motto for the Colquhoun Coat of Arms is, 'Si Je Puis'. Translated this means 'If I Can'.
The ethos of this motto has been integral in Craig's journey so far and will be at the forefront in all of his future projects.

Originally from Newcastle upon Tyne, Craig and his family now reside in Naples, Florida, moving from England in 1999. Growing up in Newcastle, Craig found he had a natural artistic talent and in 1980 at the age of 16, he was introduced to artistic glassblowing. Within a short period of time, Craig’s skills and artistic flair with glass became evident. An avid sports fan, Craig followed the Kentucky Derby on television in the UK and believed he would one day recreate the race and the home of the race, Churchill Downs, in glass.

Craig was a recipient of the Prince’s Trust in England in 1986. The award lead him to meet with HRH Princess Diana that year. During their meeting Craig told the Princess of his dream to recreate Churchill Downs, ‘The Run for the Roses’, in glass. The Princess personally inspired Craig to follow his dream, whereby Craig presented the Princess with an ‘English Rose’ he had made in glass.

Craig’s British client list includes HRH Princess Michael of Kent, Lord Ridley, British Gas, Gateshead Council, Newcastle Falcons RUFC, Northumbria Water, Newcastle United FC, Newcastle Racecourse and Northern Rock Bank.

On moving to Naples, Florida, Craig recreated a magnificent glass tennis stadium in 1999. Measuring 12ft x 10ft x 8ft, there were 2,500 individually made spectators in the stadium.

In 2001 Craig was able to realize his dream and work commenced on recreating his vision of Churchill Downs. It has taken him and The House of Colquhoun, four years to complete the project, which will be unveiled at the 131st Kentucky Derby in May 2005.

Craig also makes many commission pieces and his client list includes The Registry Resort & Club, The Ritz Carlton, Tiburon, Mediterra, Hideway Beach, Pelican Marsh, Robb & Stucky and The Ace Classic.
In realizing his dream to recreate Churchill Downs in glass, Craig has made a wreath of glass roses in tribute to ‘England’s Rose’, the late Diana, Princess of Wales.
